About Me:
I'm a gradute of UC Santa Cruz, class of 2013. I have my B.A. in Studio Art. My focus in school was on nature and light-based Photography, along with Drawing, primarily with ink.
About my Ink Drawings:
My Ink work is a tad obsessive, and I've developed into something I would call a unique style. Anyone who has seen me working can tell you two things that are always true: I always have a coffee cup with me, and I've always got a battered pair of old headphones glued to my head. Music, in particular, is a huge influence in my life. I move to the rhythms and melodies with every line I make. Together they form into a finished piece.
I've used different types of pens for this work, but ballpoint pens are my tools of choice. The way they work suits my style perfectly. Tiny, fine lines and hundreds of thousands of hatches. The permanence of the ink is something I take into account as well. Every mistake that I make, every misplaced line is there to stay. As a result of this every drawing I do is honest, and unique.
About my Photography:
Growing up in the woods of Northern California, one of my favorite things to do was hiking through the forest. Revisiting old paths and trying new ones, discovering little things that sparked my interest along the way. When I began attending UC Santa Cruz and took my first Photography class, it was clear that part of me never left.
Here is a small collection of the many photos I've taken, while on different walks through varying environments.
About my Lightpaintings:
My interest in Lightpainting stemmed from a growing curiosity that started when I first attempted night photography. I was fascinated with the way that a camera could capture a car's headlights as it passed by.
I've been asked before "Is this really photography?", which is an interesting point. The way a camera captures an image is by capturing the light around an object, but when most photographers set about taking pictures, they tend to concern themselves only with the object they're trying to photograph, not the light used to take it. With these works I concern myself only with the light, making drawings or paintings with a camera and light sources, instead of a pen or brush and ink or paint.
These "photographs" are just that, the end result of either me moving the camera around multiple lights, me moving the lights myself while I sit the camera on a tripod, or a combination of the two, all while taking one long exposure shot. Some are edited together to form a larger image, others were finished when the initial shot was.
I hope you enjoy my work.
